This was one of the most unique camping experiences I've had. We had 5G, watched part of 'Touching the Void', ate some amazing bratwurst with mushrooms and onions, rootbeer, and mac salad. Sitting comfortably in our little pocket of warmth- and then I opened the flap on the tent to see a dark wasteland of snow just an arm's reach away. Thanks Adam and Alex!

      I'm not sure what my camera settings are, but I just go to the video mode and scroll with the top back-right wheel until the frame rate is 1/4. It may be dependent on your video mode settings, like 4k 60p, 4k 24p, 1080p, etc. I'd experiment with those settings if you can't get it to 4 fps.

    Great video! Great suggestions. I love it. But, Hey come on. Don’t play games with statistics, or be fooled by games. Those statistics apply to the whole population. As soon as you don’t reflect that population, the stats don’t apply. Eg; 0.whatever % of Americans are killed by sharks. But if you go for regular beach long swims in Pensacola, well those stats are a false sense of comfort. Unless all Americans go in regular beach swim with bull sharks amok. Suffice to say it would be much better not to have included the bit on death rates.

    • @RUTired
      @RUTired 4 місяці тому

      Yep. The only stats I have to work with are the ones collected for the general population. If you have ones specific for outdoors, let me know. Not trying to fool anyone- just gotta work with what's out there.

      @@RUTired pet peeve. It didn’t need to be in there. There aren’t statistics to quantify the risk we are talking about. The stats you use don’t do it either. I live a risky life and have survived. The statistics do not describe my life, nor will they your viewers. But I get the urge to justify going into the wild very well.

I believe the first option could be very useful in big cat or bear county but i haven't tried it out yet not many woods in my area 😒 Also so regions have thorny bushes you could find a decent amount put on gloves and put it around camp site

    This is an amazing video. I have two questions about this video. Would the Sony A7S II with the f0.95 lens be able to see well on a new moon at night? In the video the footage looks pretty good when there's nothing but stars, you can see the trees silhoulette's and stuff, but would the camera be able to see as much detail of the trees like that of a full moon... on a new moon?... Or would there need to be more photons for a clean and seeable image? And also my 2nd question is if the Sony A7SII can do that with a shutter speed of 1/30th or 1/20th of a second on a full moon. Thank you in advance, this video is great and useful.

    • @RUTired
      @RUTired 3 місяці тому

      Sorry I missed your comment until now. You still have more than enough power to see things on a night with a new moon. The segment where I show the stars was taken on a moonless night in the High Uintas Wilderness, and I wasn't pushing the camera very hard. I can't remember the settings, but it was probably wide open, around 1/30th shutter speed, and somewhere in the middle range of the ISO. Looking into pitch black woods on a moonless night, you can definitely see quite a bit, but it still wouldn't quite match daylight.

    I’ve only used my Megahorn III five times, because I can stay reasonably warm in my hammock with a 3-season underquilt and a Thermarest of some sort. But I like the hot-tent, and have a trip planned with a son-in-law in January. I use a steel (Winnerwell) stove, because though the extra weight requires a sled, its mass is such that it does stay warm for some time, even if the fire goes out. There is a special charm to being out in wintry conditions, yet warm in a hot-tent, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing your memory with us; I hope you will have many more. Stay safe; and enjoy the forest.

      I'll be honest, I don't have any personal experience in this area. From my research I think the 460 might be a touch more flat shooting at longer ranges, and carry more energy, but both should be okay for any North American game. There are some that have commented on here that anything other than a long gun is not enough. I disagree, but I don't have any experience so take it for what it's worth. I'd probably add a small scope too if it were me.

    Can you shoot 308 out of it I have a lar 8 A4 standard and it says 7.62 on the barrel

      Great question. From their website, all lar-8 rifles are rated for 308. I exclusively shoot 308 in mine

    Your hunting story was pretty scary. What would have happen if you actually shot or wounded an animal? I would do a little more researching on hunting. That weapon isn't what I'd recommend for stalking type hunting. You are aware if you wound that animal, you have a responsibility to finish your hunt? That can result in a woods trek far away from the roads, then getting the meat home. I am not trying to criticize , as I came here to gain knowledge about this rifle. I almost bought one today but needed to do some more research, thanks for your detailed review. I really helped. If I get one it will be a Deerstand Hunter. As someone that has humped a few rifles, that isn't a light rifle for humping. Be safe and good luck with hunting and the rifle. Randy

      Thanks Randy. Definitely a valid concern. I was fully expecting a lot of hiking on top of the stalking I was doing. I tend to have grander visions of a hunt than what is actually practical. For example, I fantasize about hiking into the mountains 8 miles and camping for days while hunting elk. In reality, it would be a nightmare hauling out even a hind quarter, much less going back 4 or 5 times. I was prepared in this case to track down a buck for multiple days if I had to, but if it came to that I probably would've had a better idea of how miserable it is in reality, and maybe changed rifles in the future. I didn't think it was that bad, but I'm used to pretty heavy packs when I hike. Thanks for the feedback!

      @RUTired At least you have a plan. Find some hunters in that area to tap into their methods. I am lucky to hunt out my back door, but I have hunted with an H&K 91 in 308. Got lossed in the woods one time and had to hump it. Not fun at all. Thanks for your maturity and understanding that my comments were directed towards your safety and future hunting expirences. Semper Fi Good Luck out there. I ate dinner and reviewed your video on the Rifle and told myself to sleep on it. They have three of them at $950.00 each. Does that sound like a good deal? I miss that .308 / 7.62x51 in my collection. Thanks again!

      @@rik4369 yeah I think I picked up mine for $1750 or thereabouts, so sounds pretty good to me. The rifle has been awesome. I've found the 175 grain federal gold medal match to be the most accurate load. I always appreciate wisdom from people with more experience. I'm glad I could add my two cents about the rifle. Good luck.

    I am so not eager to see snow on the ground. Last winter started more than a month earlier and ended more than a month later than usual. Good video BTW.

      Thanks. I find myself missing some aspects of winter in the summer, and all aspects of summer in the winter. I guess there's at least no bugs in the winter.
